1. Extract bin file from zipped download.
2. Copy bin file to root directory of SD card (*not* inside DCIM folder).
3. Turn off K-3.
4. Place SD card in one of two card slots. Remove the other card (if using both slots) to make it easier for the camera to figure things out.
5. Hold MENU button down while turning on camera.
6. K-3 will recognize bin file and give you a prompt to upgrade firmware. Up arrow to START and press OK button to perform upgrade.
7. K-3 will signal when upgrade is complete and turn the camera off.

Note that if K-3 detects there is not sufficient power in the camera, it will not let the upgrade proceed to protect against bricking the camera. Remember to delete the bin file from the SD card after upgrade is finished.

I just updated, but I had to use slot 1, it did not work using slot 2.

"Improved performance of continuous shooting when using phase-matching autofocus"

Certainly seems a bit more zippy getting a continuous focus locks now

Same here, now when are we going to get that version of firmware that makes the operator a better photographer??????????
I was hoping for the implementation of the warning beep that goes off when you put the view finder up to one's eye with the lense cap still on. (or maybe it should just utter a Homer Simpson "Doh"!)

It's a little freaky with this update.

When you load the update, the camera with flash "Loading" and if you miss the "complete" and the blinking SD card light by a second, the camera will just go blank.

In the past, the update would "blink complete" for as long as it took until you turned off the camera.

I put my one K3 down, and looked away and did something, and almost freaked because it was just a black screen when I came back.

Good thing I had another K3 where I actually watched the process.

So don't freak if you miss the "complete".

one of the advantages to being on the forum is that you immediately know about firmware updates.
...that was easy & painless

Thanks for corroborating that. I wasn't paying attention, saw the blank screen, and thought that I had bricked my camera.

Yup. Me too.

On the first K3 I waited about 10 minutes to be sure everything was complete.
On the second K3 I watched and the update was pretty quick.

Shame on them for not giving some kind of update screen or keeping around the "complete".

My guess is there are going to be quite a few people freaked about this.

Do you think they have improved the performance of AF in video mode?

With both batteries in, the camera will not power on reliably after having been off about 20 minutes. Removing the battery from the camera and only using the battery in the grip will power up the camera every time. I was hoping this was a firmware issue.

I did not explode, and not yet any problems found for firmware things.

Got me as well - I sat around for 15 to 20 minutes going will I or wont I turn the thing off.
They no longer include a read me instruction file with the download as well.

No, but all the instructions are on the download page, so it's not really needed anyway.
