According to Pentax this is what you get with this firmware update:

•Shorter processing time for HDR Capture.
•Improved performance of continuous shooting when using phase-matching autofocus.
•Extended display time for enlarged live view.
•Improved stability for general performance.

A nice Xmas present.

Interesting file size: 14.1MB vs 9.9MB for K-5 firmware update. That's a lot of extra code.

I can never remember, do you put the update file inside the DCIM folder on the card or alongside it?

Along side it. In the "root" directory.

It has to be in the root directory of the card not inside the DCIM folder. Beside it.

Anyone that can tell what "Extended enlarged display time for live view." actually menas? I guess when I push the OK button and it enlarges the picture the time it stucks has been extended. Is this correct? If so is the time possible to set or is it fixed? I can't find any reference. It seems to return to full view after 5 minutes. What was the time before the upgrade? Just curious...

Now the AF Off function for the AF button does not stop continous shooting.

1. Extract bin file from zipped download.
2. Copy bin file to root directory of SD card (*not* inside DCIM folder).
3. Turn off K-3.
4. Place SD card in one of two card slots. Remove the other card (if using both slots) to make it easier for the camera to figure things out.
5. Hold MENU button down while turning on camera.
6. K-3 will recognize bin file and give you a prompt to upgrade firmware. Up arrow to START and press OK button to perform upgrade.
7. K-3 will signal when upgrade is complete and turn the camera off.

Note that if K-3 detects there is not sufficient power in the camera, it will not let the upgrade proceed to protect against bricking the camera. Remember to delete the bin file from the SD card after upgrade is finished.
