Pentax F1.7X AF Adapter /Teleconverter with K3 & DA* 60-250mm

I have been watching a Pentax F1.7X AF Adapter /Teleconverter on eBay and wondering how it would work with my K3 and DA* 60-250?

How would this combo work for birding and any other thoughts?

I like the idea of the extra reach.

Yes, it does work great. Depending on the available light, you may need to roughly focus manually and then let the TC do its trick....

Works well in good light. Just remember this is not a teleconverter it is an "auto focus adapter". So you have to manually focus the lens to "close enough" and then use the AFA to lock focus. It was originally designed to give AF capability to manual focus lenses, plus act as a TC. 300mm manual prime plus this gives you a 510mm semi auto focus lens. On the DA*60-250 you 425mm at the far end. Image quality is softer than without of course but not too bad.

Don't know if you get anything out of this because these pictures were shot with the K-7 and 60-250 stuck on the TC 1.7. All shot at full stretch in RAW hand held no PP other than a slight colour correction. It may help to demonstrate the image quality. Printed on A3+ they are pin sharp.
Originals and 100% crops.

I tend not to use more than 1.4xTC on a lens that is not f2.8 or faster. 2x or even 1.7x is too much loss. I only use the 2x TC Sigma with the Sigma 120-300/2.8 OS and the los of IQ is minimum. The IQ with the 1.4x TC and the same sigma 120-300/2.8 OS is none. I used to have the 1.7x AFA and used it with the Tamron Adptall 300/2.8, it made it AF and was wonderful.
