K-3 and AF540

Hi,
I tried to set M mode on my AF540 and found out that if K-3 is set to, say Av, no matter what mode I select on the flash, A or M, whenever I half-press shutter release button the flash switches back to P-TTL. I can set and use A and M modes only when K-3 is in manual.
Is it supposed to be so? Or is it my camera/flash?
Thank you very much,

Try setting the camera to X. The shutter will lock in at 1/180 and you should be able to vary the aperture.

It depends what lens you have attached but is normal behaviour for an 'A' lens and better.

Think you can get 'Auto' if you switch camera off , select auto on flash then switch camera on (in AV)
I checked this on a 360 but don't have 540 with me to confirm.

Once camera is on 'Mode' will only allow SB or P-ttl, pre-setting 'M' will revert to P-ttl on half press but 'A' should stick.

Awaldram,
I'm using DA40 lens.
I just checked your trick with Auto - it works on 540. But it doesn't work when I put 540 into M mode - it jumps back to P-TTL as soon as I turn the cam on.
The main reason I asked about this behavior is K-7, if I'm not mistaken, did allow 540 to be in whatever mode. If it's true it's kind of strange that more advanced K-3 doesn't allow it, isn't it?
Thanks,

I haven't checked A mode, but the K5 / AF540 combination also behaves as you have described for the K3.

And the K10D in Av behaves as you seem to remember from the K7.
