K-3 Cheap IR remote?

Anyone know which IR remote(s) work with the K3?

I've got this wee guy;
7dayshop Infrared Remote Control Switch / Shutter Release for Pentax / Samsung Cameras - 7DAYSHOP.COM

Works with my Kr, but not my K3. There's plenty of cheap IR remotes out there claiming to work with K3, but it's hard to tell whether it specifically does, or whether it's the same as the above, and thinking they work with all Pentaxs, the sellers have just copied a list of models. If that makes sense.

Anyone bought a cheap one which works?

I have three I got for $1.99 each on eBay. I use them on my K-7 and K-3 without issue. They're generic, ordered directly from China, and one ofthem only works if the button is pushed from a certain direction, but for $6 for three remotes, who cares?

Thats a bit odd as normally remotes are similar across most of the modern Pentax's.

BTW: Do you have a smart phone..?? If it has an IR diode, and runs andriod, you can try "DSLR Remote" from the play store.

Well I ordered the Pentax weatherproof remote today from BH Photo. Has been out of stock. Some more came in yesterday. $29 and you get WR and guaranteed performance on Pentax bodies!

I've used this $4 remote with my K5.

I also just discovered that I can use my Samsung Galaxy s4 as a IR camera remote.

Yup, that works - by the way it also saves you $4 if you happen to switch systems and buy a Cannon/Nikon

Wait... how? Did you find an app?

Maybe it's because I have an S3, but I didn't find anything in the settings of camera app that would enable this.

One app is "DSLR Remote" from the play store. But I don't think the S3 has an Infrared (IR) port which is required to function.

App works on Galaxy S4 and Tab 2/3 and Note

Ah, you are right, I just looked it up and no IR port. Too bad; might have been fun to play with.

Does the K3 even have a functioning IR port?

It has something that looks like it on its handle, but I cannot find anything in the config, and a "Pentax" IR trigger I have doesn't do anything. It used to worh with some earlier Pentax DSLR, for sure.

Strange that it does not work with the K-3 if it works with the Kr. The signal is the same...
