What Was The First Thing You Noticed About The K-3?

For me, it's the placement of the AF button. I'm too old to go back-n-forth so, the '5 has to go.

Solid feel and the grip shape is perfect for my hands.

I'm good with the AF button now, but coming from a K10D / K-01 it feels like an entirely new brand of camera as far as button placement goes.

I'm oh-so-tempted to edit this post and write about the next things, but I won't hijack.

Except - snappy camera. Fast. Fast.

The first thing? It was Silver colored instead of black.

AF button for me. I always felt like a contortionist trying to hit it on the k-5, it's perfect on the k-3.
Second thing was the shutter sound, sweet.....
Third thing was it is still a 1/4" too short to hold all my fingers. The pinky still slips off....

My one complaint on the K-3 is the AF mode button's location (not the AF button on the rear, but the one on the side). I wish it were the bulbous head of the switch lever itself rather than a separate button. It's super easy to find while looking through the viewfinder and I find myself pushing it (obviously to no avail). And then I have to forcibly contour my finger to reach the 'hidden' and really diminutive AF Mode button above it.

My recommendation for the next K-3 successor would be keep the current AF Mode button there and call it the "C" or "X" button - a 100% customizable button with no purpose other than mapping to any function you want. And then add a button to the core of the AF Mode lever similar to the way the AF button was implemented on the K-5/K-7.

But for my first impression - it's an even more aggressively styled camera than the K-7/K-5, which I didn't think could be done. The K-3 has replaced the K-7/K-3 for the most downright 'badass' and 'no BS' looking camera body ever made in my opinion.

And agreed with above - that shutter sound is...just wow.

The first thing I noticed was finally a well-placed AF button on a Pentax camera.

Just that it felt like a refinement of the K5 body. I was initially bothered by the AF button placement on the back, since I was used to the K5 button, but now that I'm used to it, it is probably easier to find than before.

Coming from a K-30, that shutter sound. Was almost weird at first but now I love it.

The rear AF button, but I'm slowing getting used to it - so not a big deal.
Coming from a D800, the size and weight. It's *soooo* much smaller and lighter - I love it. By the time I bought a new bag (because the K-3 was pretty much lost in the depths of the D800 bag) I've pretty much *halved* my bag size and still carrying the body + grip + lens, a second lens, and a flash.
Love it....

Everyone bitching about its perceived short-comings and minor QC issues. It is a fantastic camera and it will prove itself to be! :-)

First was build quality (solid feeling and comfort of grip), second was shutter sound!

Also, I still haven't really noticed the Ricoh logo, whenever I think about it I am usually reading these forums and my camera isn't in hand. You guys chimp too much
