Hi all I just found this forum as I'm in the market for a camera and have all but sold myself on the K3 for price/performance/features da da da. But in my pixel peeping I came across photography blog and in comparing the high iso shots taken of the magazines/books with the fuji x-e2 and the K3 the fuji appears to blow away the K3 especially up around 6400 and above. I'd like to think that the test shots they did with the K3 are slightly out of focus or the lens they used is a dud? Or is the fuji actually that incredible at high iso? It seems that it may be the lenses used to test them. I wonder how both would fare with the same exact lens.

The K-3 is definitely not as clear as the Fuji but they shot the Fuji at f5.6 and the K-3 at f8, at the same 1/125, not exactly a fair comparison. Overall they really liked the K-3.

They're comparing camera processed JPEGs. Are you planning on shooting RAW? Because if so you should look for comparisons elsewhere. I was reading this review last night on imaging-resource, and they have comparisons between the K-3 and others (not the FUji X-E2) and there, the K-3 fares very well. They also explain the differences between the 24mp output of the K-3 and the 16mp of the K-5 IIs (same resolution of the Fuji X series) and they say basically that although the K-3 does slightly worse at higher ISOs it preforms better when the images are scaled down to 16mp and when printed, matches the IQ of the 16mp K-5 IIs at 6400 for an 8x10 print.

I think the Fuji is probably pretty similar to the K5 with regard to high iso performance. The K3 does about the same as the K5 with high iso -- as long as you down size the photos to the same size. Iso 6400 is definitely usable on the K3.

Actually I'll probably shoot both jpg and raw as I'm as excited about getting into the post processing as well. I'll check out that review.......and try to find some raw samples to download and play with. I'm really trying to talk myself out of fuji because I've got a great Pentax/Tamron dealer in town but I can't get those high iso shots out of my head.

Check out some of the high ISO shots people have done on here with the K3.. Heck, even my K5 can produce very usable high ISO shots.

I find that far too many testers use the camera defaults. Noise Reduction blurs images; that's how it works. I turned mine off permanently.

I think Fuji is creating a nice system. It's worth considering.

Just make sure it's what you want. They obviously have some very nice lenses, based on the photos I've seen.

But they're also 1 1/2 or 2 years from having a few lenses that I think are critical for having a viable system. Of course, it's taken most Pentaxians at least that long to build up our lens kits to where we want. So it may be OK with you. But just be prepared to wait for a few of them.


So make sure you take a good look at Fuji's lens roadmap before making a decision.

Nice pic of the pup! I'd have about 4 cameras on hand and 4 on pre-order if I had the $! Actually I haven't bought a camera since my Sony DSC-H1 bridge camera in 2006 but when I pulled it out recently to take some Senior pictures of my son I knew it was time for an upgrade. Not that it didn't do an OK job, but when I did an impromptu shoot with my girls I really found myself wanting more performance. Plus my sister's wedding is coming up and I want to try my hand at getting some good shots which is the reason for the iso inquiries.
