I just updated the K-3 firmware to version 1.02. Worked like a charm. Only took a few minutes.

Please tell me what this 1.4 can do for me that my Tamron 1.4 will not do? I guess I don't understand what the big fuss is all about?

This is probably a little OT in this thread, so I'll try to make this quick...

The difference between the two extenders (converters) is a bit like the difference between SCA3000 and 300, or like using an M42 lens on a modern mount: You lose information. When you use the Pentax extender, the camera will detect it automagically and adjust everything it measures and you see accordingly. Because the new firmware is "aware" of your hardware, your camera can react so certain characteristics of the converter. Because there is no awareness within the firmware for the Tamron version, everything works at a more generic level.

I don't get the fuss either, but then I'm no fan of the type of hardware in question anyways. But that's just me.

Regards,
Pix

From what I understand the autofocus is unreliable using the Tamron. As well the SR sees the focal length of the attached lens, not the combination.

My DA*300 plus K-3 is weather proof, and this TC will keep it that way.

I am having trouble loading the the firmware 1.02. I am using a fully charged battery, a reformatted 32GB card with the firmware on it placed in slot #1. I do not see the firmware update screen with I turn the camera on with the menu button pressed. If I scroll to page 4 of the set up menu I see firmware info/options showing v1.00 with no other options. I have reformatted the card 3 or 4 times and reloaded the firmware onto the card. I'm on a Mac. The firmware I downloaded is a BIN file fwdc220b.bin
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom

The file needs to be extracted. Just click on it to extracted the multiple files. Then load sd card into camera.

It has to be in the root directory on the card.

Check the File Name Carefully

I had the same problem with mine on a Mac. Found out that the file name of the binary (.bin) for FW 1.02 is exactly the same as the one for FW 1.01. If you have the older one in the same folder when you unzip the download, it will append a 2 on the new one, and the camera won't see it. So, make absolutely sure that the .bin that you put on the SD card is EXACTLY the same as what the name shows on the Ricoh download page.

I am updating from v 1.00 so there is no old file in the folder. Gotta be something simple which I am overlooking.

My new battery grip battery went dead yesterday without warning and did not transfer to the camera body battery. Anxious to see if 1.02 fixed that!
I have had the same problem! Battery grip batteries become depleted and does not automatically switch to the camera battery --

Tram- what kind of batteries? This is what we are trying to determine. Also when the batteries expired, did it shut your whole camera down? Or were you able to turn off and then turn back on with the batteries then transferring?

Do you have it on card in slot 1? Just turn on camera while holding down menu button. I got an error initially and redownloaded the file from the site and it updated fine then.

Stupid thing ... but I tried 3 times wondering what I was doing wrong ... and it turned out that it wouldn't come up with the upgrade firmware dialogue if the SD card door is open ... Close it and you'll probably be fine.

I took it out today, and I think the AF is much better now.
