Third Party P-TTL flash for K-3

Any one have first hand experience with shoe mounted flash for the K-3? I have a Bell and Howell that works fine on my K-x, but not on the K-3. The Pentax flashes are just too expensive. Your advice will be much appreciated.

Be careful when using older flashes with modern cameras....the higher voltages could damage your camera...

So far, after limited testing, the Metz 52 AF-1 works beautifully with my K-3 using P-TTL, both on the camera and off in slave mode.

There are modern P-TTL flashes made by Tumax and sold under the Bell & Howell name. I suspect that the OP owns one of those.

I have Metz 48 AF-1 (no longer available, but you can find it used) and from cursory testing - it seems to work just fine. Better then with K-30 actually, which had some issues. Wireless also works.

I´m happy with my Metz 52 AF-1 as well. Everything works as intended and you can upgrade the firmware easily by USB.

Metz flashes are great and I won't part with them unless something better comes along. As stated above, P-TTL works great(too bad you can't go P-TTL w/manual control).

Yeh, pity they have problems with the K5 (Pentax's fault I think).

Looks like the Metz doesn't have P-TTL though. Much more accurate than TTL.

The Metz 52 AF-1 (for Pentax) certainly has P-TTL!

I have the Metz 58 AF2 and that has PTTL and works like a charm on the K-3.

Well the Metz's are certainly less costly than the Pentax WRs. But I think the weather resistance would be good for outdoor work that I want to do.
