Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-2

Anyone tried these cards yet? They are available at BH.

I have had excellent success with the Extreme Pro cards, reliable and fast.

Do you mean the USH-I extreme pro cards? I use those (64gb size) and they're great. They definitely work as advertised

For UHS-II all I'm seeing is these panasonic cards:
Panasonic 32GB microP2 UHS-II Memory Card AJ-P2M032AG B&H Photo

I don't think any cameras support those yet

SanDisk 32GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDHC Memory Card

The K-5 didn't support UHS-1 but the Extreme Pro UHS-1 made a difference in how quickly you had the camera back. Something about the internal sector selection algorithms.

Interesting. I wouldn't expect any improvement since the host device doesn't know how to deal with the new spec, but you never know! Have you timed it alongside a UHS-I card?

Being extraordinarily cheap I was hoping someone else did. When they are available in Canada I'll try one out.

I bet they are made with 4k in mind. I wonder how hard a 4k video resolution update would be via firmware on the k3. I know better than to ask on a k5.

4k has four times the data rate of standard 2k HD. Whereas 1080/60p has only twice the data rate of 1080/60i.

Meaning it would be twice as unlikely to have 4k as it would be to have 1080/60p. In a Pentax firmware upgrade, that equates to ... very, very unlikely.

UHS-II is a physically different bus, with an extra set of contacts to increase the bandwidth. The slot is backwards compatible with older/slower cards, but putting a UHS-II card in a UHS-I or older slot will not gain you any speed benefits.

You will likely see no difference at all in speed if you put one in the K-3 compared to the current UHS-I Extreme Pro cards.

I wonder if the upcoming 645D 2014 will feature capability for this new UHS-II ?

Would make sense considering the size of the files...

Would also make sense to develop the future FF body for UHS-II SD cards...
