(For me, the main purpose of the Flucard is while shooting - viewing and reviewing. I don't need the DNGs until later, and can download and process those in the normal way).
That's good to know...

The Pentax Flucards are on sale now in the UK, and SRS Microsystems currently have the best price at £99, and some have been posted out already.

At present they work with WiFi equipped computers and devices that have Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Apple Safari browsers installed, which effectively ruled out Windows 8 smartphones.

The good news for any Windows smartphone user is that Mozilla's Firefox for Windows Phone browser is being released for download on 18th March so the flucard should be able to function with anyone using Apple, Android or Windows phones.

Graham, Cornwall.

I have found reference to a Firefox release for Windows 8, but nothing for WP8. As I understand it any browser development on WP8 has to be based on IE due to Microsoft restrictions. This is why there is no Chrome or Firefox for WP8. Could you let me know where you picked up that Firefox would be released for WP8, or double check that it wasn't in fact a release for Windows 8 touch.

Hi Re Firefox on windows phone 8, it came from a Pentax UK rep! I suppose he could be wrong, but I thought I would pass it along.

I too have searched online now and cannot find any confirmation, I shall edit my post and not risk duff information.
The Pentax rep said that the Flu Card definitely IS NOT compatible with the Internet Explorer browser in Windows Phones.

Delay doesn't work. Presumably you aren't touching it anyways.
That's unfortunate. One of my personal use-cases for this would be family group shots with myself included. I don't want every shot to include me holding a smartphone and jabbing at the screen.

The 3-second delay with an IR remote is enough time for me to quickly pocket the remote and assume a semi-natural pose.

okay, let's add self timer (2 sec and 12 sec) to the firmware update wish list.

It would be nice to have it right in the browser interface, definitely.

But if people (Pentax, Trek, third parties) are working on an app, it could be implemented on that side as well. Hint hint.

An app side implementation may be easier and quicker. I hope that somebody will voluntarily implement an app by hearing the forum opinion.

I've been fooling around with the Flucard for a few days trying it with various devices and taking endless selfies that are not at all worth sharing. The snow finally stopped so I went out this evening to take some long exposure shots of the lake and lights of the town. And to try the Flucard in these circumstances. I have a Samsung S3 phone, and was using my A50 1.4 manual lens.

I had the tripod set low to get the beach in the shots, so being able to stand use the remote was nice. The screen is too small on the phone, especially since the browser app doesn't use the whole screen. In landscape it isn't possible (I don't think) to zoom in while composing. A larger tablet would be nice. I adjusted focus, taking my time due to the lag from the latency of the connection. I should have turned focus peaking off in this instance since it only made the far away lights more fuzzy. It was infinity in any case. I have used it in good light and the focus peaking works very nicely.

After a few shots I set the body to manual exposure mode, then took shots to get a balance between exposing the sky and the lake, and not over exposing the lights. It isn't an instantaneous process, but it works. A larger screen would be very nice to view the composition. Everything worked reliably over the 3/4 hour that I was out. I had to remember to keep the phone away from the body during the long exposure to avoid stray light. A neat addition to the app would be a countdown timer for the exposure.

It takes 25 seconds for the Flucard to initialize and allow a connection, then probably that long again to have the phone recognize the access point, select it and connect, then open the browser and get to the control screen. To aim the lens at what you want and focus is slow because of the latency of the connection. It works reliably and well, but no hurry.

That being said, I found it a pleasure to use. It was as easy to focus as the back screen or the viewfinder. The connection was reliable over the multiple shots that I took, sometimes taking time to look at a photo or two to decide what to do next, bouncing back and forth between modes. It was nice not to be kneeling in the snow.

The only shortcoming that limit's it use for me is the inability to do multiple exposures quickly. Time will tell if that will be something a third party app could provide. Or an update from Pentax.

Can anyone tell me the size of the software on the card?

And if someone who has one could zip up the software contents and put it online, I would surely love to try and tinker with it.

If you get the page source from the browser, all this code is there. A series of javascript routines follow that are the actions taken when a button is pressed, etc.

The live view is an mjpeg stream. It looks like the shutter action is a separate call from the get thumbnail that follows. It looks like there is a call to set the sd card active on-off.
