AF Fine Adjustment

This morning I was attempting to adjust the AF fine adjustment for the 18-135 WR lens, but no matter which direction or amount of adjustment I made (option 3 so it was just for the particular lens), nothing changed.

Has anyone experienced this? What did you do to make it work (if it ever did)?

Try adjusting-->then turning off-->unmount lens-->turn on-->turn off-->mount lens-->check focus. Seems tedious, but I found that to work best.

Can anyone tell me why Pentax/Ricoh would NOT fix this in a firmwear update, or do they NOT know it is a problem.
Hope to hear from someone soon.

That does seem tedious. I have not had to adjust any of my lenses, but will have to remember this workaround.

It works fine with all my lenses. No turning and twisting. A +1 or -1 adj. is visible but if at 18mm it may be hard to see. Also distance and f-stop is factors on how much depth of field you generate, i.e if it is visible.

you do NOT need to turn your camera on/off between AF fine tune settings with the K-3. All you need to do is focus at something close to you, then move your camera to the test target using the new setting. Record your result. Change the AF fine tune, Focus again on something close to you. Again move your camera to the test target. Repeat until you have done all the tests. As a side note: I find using a large bird feather at a slight angle to be an excellent target (especially if the feather has a contrasty spot on it).

YMMV

I second Michael. When I was toying around with focus fine adjustments, I focused, took a photo, checked the focus, adjusted, saved, refocused to something close (usually - a hand in front of the lens, it doesn't need to lock the focus, it just needs to change the focus distance significantly), then refocused on the target, took the photo, checked the results, etc.

I used GhettoCAL: A DIY Lens Calibration Tool for Microadjustment-Enabled DSLRs

Of course for lenses that have Quick Shift, a flick of the focus ring will do the trick even faster.

Should not 'normally ' be required but I think the offset is stored in the lens rom or at least referenced from it.

So sometime the update is not loaded back and a bit of persuasion to re-read is required .

I never seen this with 'Pentax' DA glass.
