Flash and 300mm = iso800

This is an odd one and I'm wondering what is happening. K-3, DA*300 and Metz 50AF, in pttl mode. I tried in av, tv mode, same thing. It will expose properly, but the iso is elevated to 800. I use a flash extender to fill shadows, and one shot today had 1/180, f22 and iso 800. It would have been a better shot at iso 100 and f19.

Why does the iso not go below 800?

I would imagine it hardwired on the assumption the longer the focal length the farther your shoooting the greater sensitivity you'll require (to overcome flash power)

I never use auto ISO for flash as the camera has no way of knowing what your trying to reach and therfore cannot deliver a sane expsoure solution using auto ISO.

But in Av mode, did you try selecting f/5.6 aperture value? what happens then?
