No, because it is a damn good lens and better than at least one current Pentax 50mm offering.

...and because the M50/1.7 has fantastic optics, and the bang for the buck ratio is off the charts!

No AF, no communitcation, trouble with precise foucs... Pentax offers new 50mm lenses for little money that can do a lot more.
Lens coatings are the main drawback with old lenses, but it really depends on the lens. I don't think its a problem with the 50mm lenses, especially if you have a nice hood on it. Auto-aperture, AF,.. sure, its helpful. But on the other hand, you get great image quality with classic rendering for under $75. And its also a little gem from a.. bygone era.

A lot of the 50/55mm lenses are really good. I have an old screw mount Pentax 55mm f1.8, an SMC Pentax M 50mm f1.4 and a Ricoh Rikenon 50mm f2.0 that have all performed well on my K5 and K5 IIs. Slight color differences, but all very sharp.

I own both the DA 50/1.8 and the M 50/1.7 and while I have yet to do a full head-to-head test*, my impression in general shooting is that the DA 50/1.8, while quite good, is a step below its older uncle.

Steve

* I plan to do a full head-to-head of the DA 50/1.8 against both the K 55/1.8 and the M 50/1.7 on both digital and film. The reason why I want to include film in the mix is to test the contention that the DA is FF compatible. Film is a lot easier for me at this point than buying a Sony A7.
