Max. continuous FPS slower with manual glass?

Do all Pentax cameras do this? For example, the max FPS on my Pentax-M lens is slower than my A lenses, however, if you move the aperture ring off "A" the max. FPS also drops. Is this some kind of mechanical limitation?

In manual are you picking a shutter speed fast enough to have 8 fps?

If you are in autofocus mode, the drive won't release until it sees a focus confirmation, I've had that slow me down. Also, lens correction could slow it down. If you turn off all lens corrections and set the selector on MF, does it get better?

There is no reason the FPS should be lower except due to a slow shutter speed.

With manual lenses you have to be in M mode, BTW.

I have also experienced low fps (around 4 I guess) but with DA lenses. I haven't done enough tests to see what causes this, but what I'm seeing ATM looks like the camera is limiting fps depending on external brightness. Ex. on a sunny day, I get 7 fps at, say, ISO 100 f/5.6 1/200. Indoors I'd get 4 fps with ISO 1600 f/5.6 1/200. Maybe there's more to it, but for now this is what I have observed.

1 It will be slower is you are using live view

2 Release priority will allow faster shooting than focus priority. This is an AF.S setting so you would not think it should affect manual focus, but I'm not sure. Check in the custom settings menu under AF.S settings. If it does that would explain faster shooting in brighter conditions that Giklab mentioned..

Well that's what I'd assume as well. I've tested this with every lens I have that has an aperture ring. FA 43mm, Sigma 28mm, 300mm F* and an M 50mm 1.2

Set camera to manual. Set AF switch to MF. Pick an arbitrarily high shutter speed 1/8000. Test with aperture ring in "A" mode. Very fast. Sounds like a sewing machine. Now, take the lens aperture ring out of "A" mode -- it fires more slowly. M-glass is also slower.

I suppose I could upload a video, but I was just curious if other people noticed something similar.

Just tried it with an M lens on my K-30, fast as a rabbit! Full speed for sure.

Do you have lens correction on? Highlight and or shadow correction?

Attached is an audio file.

It's with a 43mm 1.9 attached. A 7 shot burst with the aperture ring in "A" and then a 7 shot burst with the aperture ring out of "A." All lens and highlight corrections are off. Release priority has no effect. It's just the camera in MF mode and manual exposure. Fully charged battery, latest firmware.

This is a peculiarity to my camera?

K-3 burst is 8fps and the K-30 is 6fps, so really need another K-3 for a valid comparison...

I just tested on my k-3. No audible difference. Lens was Sigma 105 F2.8 macro with aperture ring. Shot at 1/500s, F2.8 on both A and 2.8.

Here's a thought: Clean your contacts with an alcohol wipe...maybe some data isn't getting through?

But there are no contacts on M lenses...it is strange. Do you have any m42s? (no aperture lever)
