K3 3rd party battery grip

Hi there,

To make the long story short, I am looking for a cheaper battery grip alternative for my K3, the reason for this is I want added water protection at the camera base but want to pay less, I've not tried any of those after market battery grip, I don't need a 100% copy of the original but basic operation via the grip like the shutter, any suggestion ?

Buy the real Pentax grip. It's designed for the K-3. You won't be disappointed. Why save a few dollars and risk the water protection of your camera with an after market grip.

Regards

The third party grip I tried for a K-5 was ok and good value for money - especially for a first grip to find out whether I would really benefit from it, but I'm doubtful whether it was WR.
The genuine grip is in a different league, and I feel worth the extra cost.

I just checked eBay, and no one is selling a third-party version of the K-3 D-BG5 grip yet - only copies of the the K-7/K-5 D-BG4. Even the original D-BG4 grip isn't 100% compatible electrically with the K-3 (and has to be hacked to fit), so I doubt a third-party copy of the D-BG4 would do any better.

I got my grip for free from my regional camera rep as an incentive to buy from a bricks and mortar store. BH Photo was giving them away recently. So what is the problem?

My only reason for purchase the grip is added water protection at the camera base, if no other choice then I will go for the original.

A grip will not 'add' water protection. To fit the grip you will need to remove one of the rubber seals from the base of the camera body.

I dunno but it sounds silly to create a product that will downgrade a water resist body.

Adding a Pentax grip will not downgrade the WR body, but buying a cheap Chinese made knockoff most likely will...

(The Pentax grip is WR, the Chinese knockoff... not so much)
