Holy trinity of lenses

After acquiring 10-20 and 50-135 I have watched for the midle range the 17-50 or 16-50 to 20-40 because I would like to partner with 50-135 WR.
But I also realized that I would fail a bright lens.
I would love the 31mm limited but the price is very high.
What do you think? I prefer the 40mm 2.8 XS, bought the Sigma 30mm 1.4 art, or do?

I have the FA31mm & FA77mm as two thirds of the Trinity. DA14mm to complete the Prime Trinity? Or the Sigma 8-12mm zoom to break the prime monopoly.

For zooms, my Trinity would be Sigma 8-12mm, DA 16-50mm & Sigma 70-200mm.

i think DA 15mm limited is better choice, all 3 primes with 49mm filters

I just ordered the 15mm limited lens Sunday evening and it should be here by Monday. I am so looking forward to using it.

So to recap, since starting this thread, you've acquired two lenses - the DA35 Ltd Macro, and the DA15 Ltd?

And the DA 50mm 1.8 and the DA 35 AL 2.4 and the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8.
I had a few other lenses for the older Kx that I use as well, like the Tamron 90mm macro and the Pentax 55-300. I should be set now for anything I want to shoot. Spent the last weekend shooting broken glass on a mirror to try and make sort of abstract light paintings with my camera. I am so grateful for all the help and suggestions I have been given here by the forum members. I have seen and learned so much just by seeing what they can do. And people here are much kinder than on some other forums I have visited.

The FA 31mm uses 58mm filters.

My prime holy trinity - DA 15, FA 31, FA* 85.

Living in the UK I do find WR sealing pretty useful, so I do tend to take the DA* 16-50 with me regularly.
My zoom trinity is 8-16, 16-50, 50-135. That said I recently picked up the 60-250, so that may be about to change.

Hey folks, I do not know how you manage changing primes on photo locations, especially in dusty / windy places?? Also using just 3-primes, say 15 mm, 77 mm and 200 mm leaves huge gaps in between when talking about a trinity of lenses. Very limiting focal length choice too - can be a disaster photographically.
I seriously think talking about and using a trinity of lenses is suicide????

A trinity of Zoom Lenses are ideal, especially when todays zooms are pretty sharp & fast too. I rely on the fastest available zooms:- a) 10-20, b) 17-50 and c) 55-300 on my travels abroad. So I have all my bases and situations covered - vow! peace of mind and no much changing of lenses.

I do use fast f1.4 to 1.8 primes for some very low light conditions - just 3% of situations. And for rainy days my 18-135 WR comes in handy. This copy is brutally sharp - you can see the pores and pimples on the face when blown up 100%.

Think folks - does using a trinity of Primes make sense ????? Is it practical ?????

Just my 2-cents.

It's a different approach (and definitely not "suicide"

). Sometimes it's limiting but you have to admit there's been plenty of decent photography essais and reporting done with just one fixed focal length. But it's probably not the place for that debate.

Ideally my trinity would include a 135mm, the M-50mm 1.4 and the 15mm but I don't have the latter anymore.

I love the 'three quality zooms' set I usually take. Realistically there are not many travel shots you miss, based on this choice. And that can be important, if you are going to a location which you may not visit again and want photos.

But it is also very liberating to ditch the weight and take the primes. Maybe something to do on a day when you are shooting just for the pleasure of shooting, rather than fitting around some other activity.

Worth noting that many primes have some advantages under certain usage conditions (e.g. Macro capability, flare resistance, low coma for astrophotography, unobtrusive size etc.). So I would take primes based on either their particular advantages, or just to have a 'slow photography day'. Worth noting also that the prime limiteds are not weather sealed.

+1 to the view that when going out with friends and family, take the zooms. If you are just out shooting for yourself, take a little longer over things and take the primes!

Wide: FA31 (or maybe FA*24)
Normal: A50/1.2 (or maybe FA43)
