The K-3 and Video

In the beginning I tested the video on the K-3 and decided that it sucked.

I used 1080 50i and 60i and SR.

After playing with the settings I have found that if I turn off the SR and forget that it exists I get good photage but only if I also forget about 50i and 60i.

Using no SR, 1080 25p and my tripod I get really sharp and undisturbed video.

I am now a happy camper.

Make sure to put the player on 1080 and fullscreen.

The texts are in Swedish and says "A short nature film filmed with the Pentax K-3" and at the end "Now I ran out of photage..."

It looks very good, indeed. Manual focus, I assume?

I to think that it looks good. Yes, manual focus. Well, I focus manually through the viewfinder if it is to bright outside and then frame the shot on the screen.

Nice nice!
It's sad that Pentax managed to kill off the one thing they had for video that beat most other brands, a nice built in SR with all lenses. My K-5 is wonderful for making videos look smooth while handholding.
About the interpolation I'm pretty sure most filmmakers go with progressive and interpolate in pp if needed.

I just wish that they would allow focus peaking DURING recording. It would make life so much easier!

Have you tried 24p? I haven't tried any other frame rate and just wondered if you have found 25p to be better.

The reason 50i and 60i does a bad job is due to... I have no idea. I am used to work with interlaced video and in Premiere Pro it should not be any difference compared to progressive.
24p I have not used but expect it to be as good or better than 25p. 30p also gives good results. The reason for 25p is that Swedish television uses 25 frames per second. PAL.
I believe that you Aussies uses a version of PAL as well.

Yes, we have 50Hz too. Seems to me that TV frame rates are not so relevant these days, with most modern displays handling 24p as a common standard. The only thing remaining is recording under some old artificial lighting that flickers at the mains frequency.
