I had one episode of mirror flap. I was not doing time lapse or interval shooting. I am currently going through the pain of sending it off to get the fix; the pain being not having it in my bag.

That said, I would buy the K3 again in a heartbeat even if I knew for sure I'd get a flopper. I just love this camera. It's easy to use, very ergonomic in the hands so the sense of "I have a camera" fades away, and takes great photos. I don't even regret paying the early adopter premium. ...okay, maybe a little... $300 less for the current street price hurts a little.

I think the K5IIs is a good camera too, but the extra money for the K3 (if you have it) is well spent.

30,400+ actuations since early July. I've had 1 instance of lockup followed within an hour with 1 instance of flutter at around 10,000 actuations. Currently running firmware 1.11. Both happened on 7/20/2014 with firmware 1.10.

Same goes for the flash (PTTL?) problem.

I'd like a K-3, really, but reliability is first priority for me
Flash problem? The only flash problem I am aware of is overexposure with non-AF lenses. The complication is that P-TTL flash with non-AF lenses has been problematic for years with various models. Some users report problems and others do not.

As for reliability, I am confident that you will not find greater reliability with another brand.

I wonder whether yours is to be considered "current production"?

Well, I think with version 1.1 firmware, it would solve the issues.

Can anybody tell me how the buffer of the K-3 does against that of the 70D? Camerarec Toby did a 70D buffer test and got hundreds of jpeg shots (blank frames with lens cap on) before the buffer filled.

The only video I have been able to find showing the performance of the K-3 in this regard is this video:

Pentax Ricoh K-3 Serienbild Feuer (mode HIgh) - YouTube
Just did it on my k-3.

Transcend 32GB 45mbps write cards
JPEG 3 stars Large ~1700 capacity
Shutter speed 1/1600s
Manual focus
Blank frames with lens cap on
Recorded 3 times, each time ~70 frames before slowdown (slowdown was maybe 4-5 FPS instead of 8FPS)

Humourously I tried the same with my k-30 (used the same card) and I got 200 frames and it wouldn't slow down. Shooting at 6FPS, I got 200 and 100 frames and no slow down. I stopped both times because I eventually decided that I didn't want to keep recording that long.
