K3 vs Sigma DP2M for Landscape

I recently visited Jasper National Park in Canada and had the K3 and Sigma DP2M with 15 MP foeven sensor with me. A few shots were of similar subjects but not exactly the same focal lengths. In this comparison the K3 is paired with the Rokinon 24mm TS and of course the Sigma has a 30mm prime lens. The 1st photo is the K3 and the 2nd is the Sigma. Let me know your thoughts.

Kind of hard to compare images without having access to raw files for post processing. Dynamic range on the K3 looks much better but often, like with Canon, in order to achieve better DR you need to PP properly. If you could upload the raw files for both I would love to PP them.

The DR of the K3 is better for sure. Sharpness of the Sigma is quite good though.

I prefer the color of the Sigma shot, but really can't compare anything else with such small pics.

For some reason, I prefer the color from the Foveon sensor (or Sigma lens)... however, base on what you can remember, which color is closer to the real scene?

Nice shots! At this resolution, and with that level of PP, it seems like almost no difference to me. I've personally found the 24MP of the K-3 just about equals the unique per-pixel definition of the 15MP Foveon. Colors are a different matter, and the 30mm lens on the DP series is incredibly good...

Are these images processed in any way with some toning ... HDR ... whatever?

Realistically, both images look great and I am sure either would make a nice large print.

But we pixel peepers need to see 100% crops.

Sigma looks better hands down. There is a reason why it's sometimes called MF quality in a smallish body. There's a DP1 Merrill tempting me here in Sweden for sheer image quality but it's not a versatile camera for sure so I'm holding back so far. Foveon really makes things looks extremely natural but with pop.

The K3 shot was an HDR of 2 photos. It made the colours look more like the Sigma, which is closest to the real scene.

I briefly owned a Sigma SD9 years ago. It was so flawed for general use, that I'll never, ever consider another Sigma camera. It was noisy, had color artifacts, poor dynamic range, jaggies, and the body was shamefully lacking in features and slow as molasses. Never again.

That photo looks okay, but it's difficult to compare them, because they weren't taken at the same moment, and the lighting is different.

Didn't the Sigma SD9 have the old version of the foveon that had weird color warpings and stuff? The ones are suppossed to be miles better.

The DP2M looks much more realistic and natural. No amount of PP will change this (unless you intentionally mess the Sigma photo up).

My thoughts too. They are not minimally processed.

Either that or the OP's K-3 takes much more "interesting" photos than my K-3...or perhaps I just take photos of the wrong mountains

Neither photo looks natural on my monitor. Both have exaggerated saturation and contrast.

Oh, no - I didn't mean genuinely natural like the colors are all correct or anything. But the DP2M photos the OP posted both here and compared to the K-5 IIs in another thread look more real - more 3D and more real looking elements like the water and the grass. And these elements should continue to look more real through whatever type of PP they're put through.

Perhaps it's more due to the lens than the sensor, but either way it's because of the camera - not the PP.
