Aww, congrats and lots of joy with this fine piece. It's still so fresh... and shiny!
Hope you made the right choice for your type of shooting.

I found the manual a tad useless. Yes, it tells your there's this and that setting. But not what to do with it.
You could check the PentaxForums K3 review, it has some advice on recommended settings, that ain't bad. And a more recent one I found helpful "Pentax DSLR shooting modes explained".

Anyhow, have fun with it and share some photos if you like.

Congrats, I have no doubt that you will be very happy with the set-up once you get to know it well. Agree that the factory manuals are limited in value, but as you are switching brands, I think it's essential reading. I finally read a part of my K5 manual that I'd skipped and discovered new stuff, so you never know.

Congratulations!

Hope you enjoy the K-3 as much as I am enjoying mine. Remember, you will need some new lenses too, the old Nikon ones won't fit right.

Just got mine today as well. A good feeling, and agree that the manual is a bit dense, to say the least. Happy to have gotten some tips here in the responses :-) Aloha!
