$99 for an AC adapter???

Hello fellow Pentaxians! Just got my brand new K3 and have some questions please.

Is there a substitute that will work instead of me having to buy the $99 K-AC 132? Wowza!

Also, in the manual, it doesn't say when you know that the battery's are charged. Both mine were green when put into the charger but died within minutes of being plugged into the camera. How long does the battery need to charge for (the included battery for the K3)?

Thanks.

The light on the charger turns off when the battery is charged. IIRC time to full charge first time was 6 hrs.

I got one for my K10D from KEH for $25 with shipping, excellent condition. Just plain luck.

As I understand it the adapter for K-5 works on the K-3.

You can get generic versions for less than $20 on eBay.

What he said. Light off means job is done.

A generic version of the AC adapter might be a good option. There are also a few users on this site who have cobbed together battery packs for astrophotography and interval video. A little sifting through the threads might turn up something.

Supposedly the AC50 works with the K-3 from the link above:

If you search eBay for the power converter chip mentioned you can find an adjustable power supply unit based on the chip. All you need to do is rig up an output cable and input power source.

+1 for that, I've used my old AC50 with my K-3 many times.

This may be a reason to upgrade from K30 to K5II ?
Then the K3 has a companion that uses the same batteries !

If you search ebay for "5 Amps Voltage Regulator Module Output 1.5-32V LM338T" you will find a suitable module. All you would need is the Hirose connector, some cables, a case and an input power source (4-35V DC or 4-26V AC), a VOM to measure the output voltage, a soldering iron. You could always replace the trimmer with the appropriate value resistor to give you a fixed voltage output. Only basic soldering skills required.
