That's drawing a bit of a long bow. Most of the PF reviews of the DA 20-40 Limited are very favourable, and the jury is still out on the DA 16-85, though reports are looking promising. Both are overpriced though, I agree, and quality control may also be an issue.
I tried - I really tried - to go back and look at the DA20-40 images on the PPG again. But it was just too painful to look at them - I couldn't get past page 3 (and I honestly thought I'd looked at enough for 5 or 6 pages by then - I kept thinking it was going to end, but it didn't!).

The DA20-40 is too dull, too slow, and too expensive. I creates perhaps the flatest, non-3D images I've even seen come out of a Pentax lens - certainly the worst Ltd! Blame Hoya - they almost killed Pentax when they fired the excellent optical engineers. Well, at least we know Ricoh can still make copier lenses! Perhaps I sound a bit too silly, but like it or not, Ricoh's going to have to do a lot better to overcome this stigma. So far they're playing right into its hands.

Speaking of Ricoh, how about the new 16-85WR, sounds interesting, altough i think it's more of another WR lens, which isn' better than the 18-135WR. What's the advantage of that lens, specially if you look at the price?

For the moment my favorite next purchase is the Sigma 17-50 2.8 and afterwards perhaps the 55-300WR.

But i fully agree with the zoom 55-300 and the difference between DAL and WR is only 10 bucks, so not a big decision to make.

I think so far the 55-300mm will be in the basket, if the price for a lens prime or zoom is reachable.
I'm not following your price info here, the difference in price is typically a lot more than ten dollars.
