It is interesting that Nikon recently received a patent for a 10-600mm lens for their Nikon 1 system (that's 27-1620mm equivalent for those new to the 2.7x crop factor for 1" sensors). I have no doubt at all that they will produce this lens as the demand for their recently introduced Coolpix P900 has completely outstripped their ability to produce it. And I also have no doubt that 1" sensors will continue to improve. My own tests demonstrated that a Nikon J3 was more or less equivalent in IQ to a Nikon D200 (as far as print size goes). And for those needing no more than 12"x18" prints these smaller cameras certainly can deliver. It was for a similar reason I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix A -- something I can carry in my pants pocket at all times. The portability is well appreciated and comes in handy. In the meantime, my Pentax K-3 and Nikon D800 cameras are more than safe.

YMMV

Michael
