I don't use the headphones but I just had a look at my k3 and the socket is surrounded by the plastic body moulding. Make sure the body of your headphone plug is not too fat and stopping the plug from fully seating in the k3 socket.

I found over the years that some 3.5mm jack plugs are slightly shorter than others (cheap ones) and some don't have the plastic moulding trimmed properly at the base of the pin. Perhaps get some ipod ear buds to test, they have small plugs.

If that doesn't work then you have (another!) a faulty camera.

Got the replacement K-3 in today and took it through some test. So far no freezing and no headphone issues. Thanks to B&H for their great customer support.
