I think keeping it is the best option, like ChristianRock pointed out, there is no resale value.
Who knows, my kids may take it for a spin if its there for them.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because the dust removal thing works by doing something (vibrating and maybe reversing electrical charge or something?) with the hot mirror, which is what they're removing.
