I always thought it was a crock that SDM could not be turned on and off via the menu.

It's been a while but I seem to remember K3 can't dump/write to the lens in debug menu. I didn't try doing the modification of the values in camera I just assume it doesn't work.

I tried. Got into debug but it wouldn't actually send the ROM to SD. I ended up using a k20 I gave to my dad.

Maybe someone near you has an older body you could borrow?

I didn't try with my K3, cause I have a K5 II and everyone said the K3 wouldn't work with it.

I tried with my K-3 about 3 months ago following the thread by Shodan. Was able to access debug menu, but just like others said, could not force read/write on the lenses EEPROM.

Same here. I also tried with K-3, but was not able to write onto the lense.

Yes, it would be so easy to do, too!

No. If you want someone to do it for you, send it to @UncleVanya who will do it for a very reasonable price, and he's done heaps of them.

I did a SDM disable on my 50-135mm with a K-5 mark 1. Scared the crap out of me when it was dead, but then I doubled checked my file and i forgot to copy a value.

It's really fast and easy. Move the switch on the lower left side of the mirror box to the MF position.

Partly I'm posting to be educated. Why would you want to disable SDM driven AF?
