K-3 and YN560 IV @ shutter speed 1/1250 and K-3 in HDR mode?

Please help me:-) How is this possible?
I am still learning about my K-3, and the fitures this camera is in possessions of. But I do not understand why it is posible to use the flash up to @ 1/1250 sec in "HDR" mode. (HDRauto and HDR +/- 3EV. - Absolutly NOT +/- 1EV and not +/- 2EV.)
My flash is YONGNUO YN560 IV and trigger YN560-TX or an old Jessop 300AFDP and trigger RF603N II from YONGNUO. In HDR mode, it is not posible to set flash functions in any way. Usually max shutter speed is 1/180 sec with my flash.
My setup: K-3 @ HDRauto, Shutter speed 1/1250sec, aperture F18 and ISO value to 800. Moreover, I have set YN560 IV @ 1/4 Output Power. I can see differense in exposure if power output on YN560 is set at 1/8 and 1/2.

I had taken three different photo with the same aperture setting, and the same ISO value. Shuter speed varies only in one case, from 1/1250 to 1/160

There are three Foto's.
The first is with Shuter speed 1/160 and flash. HDR = off.
The second is the shutter speed 1/1250 and flash. HDRauto = on.
The third is with shutter speed 1/1250 and no flash. HDRauto = on.

#1 speed 1/160 and flash fires all OK

#2 You have HDR set for +/- 3 EV yes? So one shot 1/1250 (flash will not fire) one shot at 1/640 (flash will not fire) and one shot at 1/160 (flash fires). Those are then averaged in camera.

#3 You have the flash off so it produces a much darker image because it did not fire the flash.

Note this works with +/- 3 EV because you reach a shutter speed of 1/160 in one shot, when this is set to +/- 1 or +/- 2 EV you do not reach 1/160 so the flash cannot fire.

I think you are trying something outside the purpose of HDR. It is meant as a means of exposing different parts of a scene in multiple shots, joining them to produce an evenly exposed image. One shot exposes the bright section, the next exposed the dark section, and a third exposes the middle.

With a flash, you don't need HDR. You use the flash units positioning them to illuminate the dark sections and medium sections so that you get the results one shot.

You may be able to get something in X mode, but I'm not sure. Does the body know if the flash is ready to fire? In HDR mode does it wait long enough for the flash to recycle?

I think you are way outside the automatic design parameters. If to want to do HDR with your flash units you probably will have to set up the shoots manually and join them in post processing. I'd think carefully whether you really want to do it.

It's simple, none of those flashes are P-ttl Hss compatible so they do not sync passed 1/180 with a Pentax camera HDR or not.

If you get an HSS flash you can take a picture at 1/6000s.

Ok, this is how it works. Now it begins to make sense.
Thank you for a very useful reply ... Big big :-)

Here's another problem you might encounter trying to use HDR mode with a flash even if it was a flash that is HSS compatible, due to the flash recycle time the second and third photos would still have the basically same result as the flash would not recycle and fire in time to add to the exposure.

Don't know if you know this already but if you are getting only up to a max of 1/160 sync speed it is because you may have your camera set on 1/3 EV steps instead of 1/2.
