The K3 replacement

Oh how I am dreaming of a K3 replacement.

With all these new functionalities of the K-S2, I cant wait but dream of a K3 replacment.

Its going to be a labour of love.

I'd be surprised if a replacement for the K-3 arrives before the FF, but then wow could I resist before seeing the FF.

The K-3 is still better than the K-S2 in most ways. I'm sure that when Pentax decides to update it, it'll be more than just some software improvements and gimmicks (I'd expect the magnitude to be something along the lines of K-5 -> K-3).

Originally they pitched the K-3 as having professional quality video features which was a stretch of the truth.
In view of this, improved video codec and bitrates and with a vari-angle screen and built-in WiFi/NFC would be a worthy K-3II update.

My sentiments exactly. With the K-3 current capabilities and vari-angle screen, wifi, nfc, etc, I wouldnt mind a K-3II update.

Wasn't there rumors of a major K-3 firmware update to come in the spring?

I would be surprised if the K-3 was updated in 2015. It is still one of the top APS-C 3 DSLRs on the market and if Ricoh starts updating lenses for faster AF then the K-3 will look even better.

Yeh, I expect the swing screen to be instituted in the firmware update.

The K3 (and the K10D) before it are the two dslrs that I'll retire with. Even 10 years from now, when all the cameras have pixel shift and 'laser array focusing" I'll look at my nimble K3 and say you're still special to me...

I think maybe a K-3 replacement forum is going to be needed, just like the FF forum...

You are going to be asleep for a long time. At least that is the gist of the hundreds (thousands?) of comments responding to similar posts (a couple per week since the first of the year) on this site. An incremental model may be possible, but you can bet that it will not include any feature requiring a new or modified body shell.

Ya think?

Over and over, the same question, the same desires and (regrettably) the same responses.

Absolutely, it should just require a small amount of programming. Ditto for the laser-targeting rangefinder and k-cup support*.

You mean something like a K-3SV?

(SV for "Super Video")
