View view is always going to be the most accurate. Getting a split-screen focusing screen would help, though, if you often use manual lenses.

The PENTAX Magnifier Eyecup O-ME53 is also useful for manual focusing.

With Helios 44-2, you focus with lens aperture wide open (f2). When you have focus, you move aperture to the f that you want to use (screen will get darker, DoF will increase). It is different from the number you see in the barrel, make sure you learn how to get f2 and f8. just look inside lens when moving aperture ring to learn this
My 44-2 lens is not very sharp at f2, so I need to put it to at least f3 up to f16. Best around f5.6-f8

Make sure you use Av mode and that shutter speed is at least 1/125 or faster, to avoid hand shake blur. ISO can be auto ISO (100-800 or even higher in dark places)

Custom Focusing screen (KatzEye, Focusing screens com, Jin finance screen) can help with focus. Many threads about this. Eyecup magnifier (original Pentax O-ME or Seagull or other loupe) can help a lot. Buy these if you will be using many manual focus primes.

Many manual focus lenses allow Catch in focus, almost like AF; but not Helios 44-2, it is too narrow. I am just saying this is a good Pentax feature and can help with many MF lenses

If you struggle to focus. I would suggest either catch in focus or keep pressing the AF button for confirmations.

I shoot in manual mode with my helios and use the dof preview to meter. It only stops down the aperture during the metering, so the viewfinder remains bright.

The simplest solution with the most bang for the buck is the Neewer/ Hua Guang 1.3x viewfinder magnifier that stays on the eyepiece all the time. No down sides to these, as opposed to issues with focusing screens. A lot of folks think eyecup magnifiers doing little to nothing, or distort, but that's because they are trying the Pentax, KPS, Seagull or variable magnification versions. The only pro grade version are the 1.3x units with excellent coatings, such as this:
