Pentax K3 Lens Compatibility Issue

I recently purchased the K3 and I'm very happy except one problem. The autofocus on my wonderful 2.8 28-70 Tokina doesn't work. I used this lense frequently on my K7 and the autofocus worked fine. No problems. But on my K3, it seems like the camera doesn't recognize the lens. The AF doesn't do anything. There is not any noise or movement whatsoever.

Does anyone have a clue what could be the problem? I have the 1.03 firmware loaded. I did not try the Tokina lens on the K3 prior to updating the firmware.

Thanks,

Mark

I moved the thread to the K-3 subforum.

Do you still have the k-7? If so try the Tokina on that again just to verify it still works.

Does the k-3 recognize the lens at all? If not the aperture will read as "F _ _" Try buffing the contacts to make sure the connection is good, use a microfiber cloth.

Do other lenses work OK on the k-3? Test some to isolate whether the issue is the camera or lens.

I solved the problem! I don't have my camera in front of me, but I believe it is menu C27 that must be enabled. This menu item allows the shutter to release if the lenses is not set to A. Since I shoot the Tokina 28-70 Pro on manual, this setting must be enabled for the lense to work on the camera. All is well now!

Wouldn't it be easier/more convenient to set the lens to A and change the aperture via the scroll wheel?
