Just updated my camera and everything looks normal now, back lid is gone... Dont know if they fixed or added some features besides the known LCD problem....

Just downloaded and installed without a hitch.
Will report back if it behaves better (or not!)

No problems here either. I'll get a chance to test the supposed improved AF performance today at work. I could really have used it yesterday. I wonder if it would be worth converting my 50-135 to screw drive if it turns out the camera is trying harder.

From Ricoh-Pentax:

Changes to V1.21

  • Corrected – When status screen setting is set to [Display Off] and shutter button or AF button turn to off, back light of Monitor is light up on firmware version1.20.
  • Improved stability for general performance. *Contents of [Version 1.20] and earlier version will be also updated.

No problems with the installation. All went smoothly. Interesting to note the modification date on the firmware (fwdc220b.bin) file: 12 May. They've been sitting on this a while (hopefully testing).

Cool. I have not updated mine yet. Any improvement in AF speed, etc? I wonder what "general performance" means in this context...

AF speed does seem a little snappier, at least with the lens (18-135) I had on the K-3 at the time I loaded the firmware. Image playback of the DNG's also seems more sprightly. First impressions are positive.

Of course the AF is faster, it always is. No matter what the fimware actually fixes the AF get a little bit faster, or more accurate. Placebo anyone?

Is the Pentax firmware localized in any way?
Have a K-3 bought in Sweden with Swedish menu's, can I install the FW from JP-site and still keep the localized menu's?

The FW-update aren't yet available at the Swedish Pentax/Ricoh site.

Just download and install. I always get mine from Japan for my "Swedish" K-3
