K-3 II + Manual Lens + Live View + Green Button = ???

I'm wondering if this is a "feature"/unexpected behaviour that has crept into firmware...do we know if Ricoh/Pentax read these forums, or is there an official way route for feedback about this kind of issue to prompt firmware updates?

Yes, this works. Drop out of LV, meter, restart LV, focus, shoot. Not ideal.

I have set my Pentax FA 50mm to manual aperture and the green button doesn't have effect in live-view. Maybe it's a small step made by Ricoh to push the users towards newer lenses, or it's a technical reason which lead to this change.

I have a hard time thinking it's intentional -- the green button does SOMETHING in live view (actuate the aperture, blink the screen) but it doesn't have the intended result. And it works using the viewfinder.

That has all the hallmarks of an "oops." One I hope will be corrected.

Hello all. Long lime lurker but this one made me log in and reply.

I asked that question to Ricoh UK and got a reply. This is copy/paste from the email I got:

Thank you for contacting Ricoh Imaging.
Herewith we inform you that in "M" mode the camera doesn't adjust any settings because in "M" everything should be set manually.
What you would like to achieve should be possible in "Av" mode.

If you are in need of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technical support center.

Sounds like a software design "decision", much like the EV compensation not available in manual mode on the K10D. You call it a bug, Ricoh calls it "by design".

Does not make sense, since according to the posts, when using the viewfinder in "M" mode the camera does adjust the exposure settings. Just like The cameras have been doing since *istD (dunno about film bodies, did they have the green button) and all other models are dong in the live view as well.

Right. I'm gonna go with "UK rep doesn't know what he's talking about." Av mode doesn't work with M-type lenses!

Here are the exposure-setting options that DO work correctly in M mode:

Using the green button to set a correct exposure while looking through the viewfinder.
Using the green button to set a correct exposure in live view using a non-M lens.
Holding optical DOF preview (third position on the power switch) to view the meter in the viewfinder and adjust shutter speed.
Holding DOF preview in live view mode to view the meter on the top display and adjust shutter speed.

The green button not working with manual lenses only, in live view only, is an anomaly. If someone "decided" to make it work this way he needs a slap.

Can reproduce in Live View. Definitely a bug—my K-5 correctly sets the shutter speed in the same situation.

After sending Ricoh UK quote from page 90 of the manual:
How to achieve correct exposure with aperture ring not set to A:
1. set the mode dial to M
2. set the aperture ring to desired aperture
3. press green button, the correct shutter speed will be set
4. If the correct exposure cannot be achieved adjust ISO sensitivity

I got another reply today:

Thank you for contacting Ricoh Imaging.
We have forwarded your case to our product specialists for investigation. They will test the camera in the same situation as you described.
After the testing is done we will get back to you with an advice. If you are in need of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technical support center.

Did you tell them that the problem is with the green button in LV not viewfinder mode? Remember customer service people rarely keep track of a sequence of messages until there is a big bruhaha.
