Any reports of mirror flap on the K3 II?

I just had an episode...had to open the battery door to reset the camera. Isolated incident? Exchange for a new body? I'm still within the 30 day window.

Sounds like an isolated incident- could just be due to battery voltage/drain. Hopefully it doesn't happen again anytime soon!

Isolated incident or not, a runaway mirror should never happen. I vote to send it back.

Yeah, it can't be good for the mirror assembly either. It sounded like it was going 20-30 times per second.

Aaaaaand it just locked up on me with the GPS on...back it goes! For what it's worth, its serial number was NOT in the affected range.

My K-3II also has a mirror flap event but it happens only once. I have made a lot of photos since then without another event.
Also my camera is on the power switch issue black list, but the issue never appeared.

Now you guys are scaring me. I just ordered mine and it's coming this mid September. They said that in Japan, the recall has been done and all units are above the safe serial number. I just hope I don't get a defective one. Some may say I'm paranoid but the mirror flap is actually the reason why I didn't buy a K-3. Please let us know if you experience it again.

mirror flap with K-3 II

I guess I have had the same problem with my recently bought K-3 II, but thought it was a runaway shutter. See my recent thread. The camera is going back to the shop.

In today's immensely competitive and declining sales environment Ricoh can't afford so many PR mistakes. I hope someone at Ricoh Philippines/Japan is taking note of this.

I certainly hope they have solved this before they release the full-frame. It would be a PR disaster for Pentax otherwise. They should have had time to design the bug away, plus the whole FF is probably built on a different electical and mechanical base than K-3 / K-3 II.

But the persistence of the bug through the K-3 and now into the K-3 II is troubling, and suggests to me that the Pentax engineers may still not have mastered the problem, which does increase the risk of it popping up in newer bodies too.

Pentax needs more improvements in manufacturing QC and after sales service.
