I have a 24-70 sigma non hsm and overall it performs well. If I were to replace it I would also consider the new 17-70 C from sigma. Gets great reviews and CHEEEEEAP!

Each one has trade-offs. For indoor photography you want a fast aperture and wide-angle. On APS-C, the Sigma and Tamron don't have much wide-angle. The Pentax has, but isn't particularly sharp.

I'd suggest something like the Pentax DA* 16-50 f/2.8, or the Tamron and Sigma 17-50 f/2.8.

I found my Sigma 24-70 HSM great in all the things you mentioned, but no WR and not quite as wide as I would like in tighter spaces.

HOWEVER!!!! IF you think you will be a early adopter of the new FF then I would push you towards the 24-70 sigma just so you are ready for the new camera. IF you will be a late adopter then get the crop lens and call it a day. When you make the move to FF you can always sell your 17-50 or 16-50 in the marketplace.

Yo Blacknight659 - you recommended the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 to me in another thread a couple of weeks ago. I bought it brand new from Japan for $307, got it last week. I took it for a spin this weekend and I am pleased with it so far. I'll post some pictures shortly.

These are subjective grades given by the reviewer for different lenses. And what good does it serve you if a lens that is not really suitable for your work has slightly better reviews than a lens that is perfectly suitable for your work?

GREAT! What an awesome deal! I got mine used and wow, what a keeper. This lens is almost perfect in my opinion. Its similar to haveing a small bag of primes. I knew from the review Fotorix mentioned above that it would be great, but actually owning it and using it proves this point.

Here are some of the recent photos taken. The photo of the hands was colored, sharpened, and styled for a client but I think you can still tell the lens performs well. I am almost certain all these shots were taken at f2.8 and are still very sharp. If this were shot at f4-f5.6 they would be even sharper. In my opinion, its a supurb lens.

How about some concert shots? Here are a few from a recent DJ show I photographed. Most of these shots were at iso 1600 - 3200 so there will be some grain. I needed it this high to move my shutter up and stop his movements.
