Sigma 24-70 / Tamron 28-75 or Pentax 16-85 with K3 ?

Which one is better with K-3 ?

- Best in Sharpness.

- Portraits
- Indoor
- Fast Focus

Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 IF EX DG HSM
Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD
HD Pentax-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR

Anyone experience ?

I have a 24-70 sigma non hsm and overall it performs well. If I were to replace it I would also consider the new 17-70 C from sigma. Gets great reviews and CHEEEEEAP!

Each one has trade-offs. For indoor photography you want a fast aperture and wide-angle. On APS-C, the Sigma and Tamron don't have much wide-angle. The Pentax has, but isn't particularly sharp.

I'd suggest something like the Pentax DA* 16-50 f/2.8, or the Tamron and Sigma 17-50 f/2.8.

I found my Sigma 24-70 HSM great in all the things you mentioned, but no WR and not quite as wide as I would like in tighter spaces.

I agree with this. Unless you have a good deal on the 24-70 or 28-70 f2.8, I would look for the 17-50 or 16-50 f2.8 lenses. These will work great on your K-3 and can be purchased at a great price used.

HOWEVER!!!! IF you think you will be a early adopter of the new FF then I would push you towards the 24-70 sigma just so you are ready for the new camera. IF you will be a late adopter then get the crop lens and call it a day. When you make the move to FF you can always sell your 17-50 or 16-50 in the marketplace.

PS: I own the sigma 17-50 f2.8 HSM. It is GREAT!

Yo Blacknight659 - you recommended the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 to me in another thread a couple of weeks ago. I bought it brand new from Japan for $307, got it last week. I took it for a spin this weekend and I am pleased with it so far. I'll post some pictures shortly.

These are subjective grades given by the reviewer for different lenses. And what good does it serve you if a lens that is not really suitable for your work has slightly better reviews than a lens that is perfectly suitable for your work?

I have all three of them. For my lenses (conclusion may be different for different lenses):

- Best in Sharpness (Pentax, Tamron, Sigma)
- Event Photography like Wedding (Tamron, Pentax, Sigma)
- Portraits (Tamron, Sigma, Pentax)
- Indoor (Tamron, Sigma, Pentax)
- Fast Focus (Pentax, Sigma, Tamron)
- Tele & Wide Angle (Pentax, Tamron, Sigma)

Edith: I need to correct. The Sigma I own is the 17-70 2.8-4.0 HSM. Read too quickly. Sorry for the mistake.

GREAT! What an awesome deal! I got mine used and wow, what a keeper. This lens is almost perfect in my opinion. Its similar to haveing a small bag of primes. I knew from the review Fotorix mentioned above that it would be great, but actually owning it and using it proves this point.

I will try to upload a recent shot soon.

Here are some of the recent photos taken. The photo of the hands was colored, sharpened, and styled for a client but I think you can still tell the lens performs well. I am almost certain all these shots were taken at f2.8 and are still very sharp. If this were shot at f4-f5.6 they would be even sharper. In my opinion, its a supurb lens.

What if you have one option to counter these 6 (Sharpness, Wedding, Portrait, Indoor, Fast Focus * Telle wide) some partially some very closely ? which one lens you choose ?

I recently purchased the Pentax 16-85 and it is really nice and sharp.
I plan to leave it on my K-3 for most situations.

How about some concert shots? Here are a few from a recent DJ show I photographed. Most of these shots were at iso 1600 - 3200 so there will be some grain. I needed it this high to move my shutter up and stop his movements.
