K-3 .mov question

Folks

I've got a question regarding the movie mode on my K3, which may turn into a better solution once I describe the scenario.

I'm playing with Astrophotography, or more precisely Lunar photography on a budget. I have a mate who is a keen follower of this genre, and I've been taking tips of him on how to take better shots of the moon.

The key is taking a lot of individual images and stacking them together using software, you can click, click, click away to your hearts content or take a movie clip and let the stacking software use each frame as a separate image.

And here's the problem. I've taken a couple of video clips but when I try to convert them for use in the applications I was pointed at the .mov format is not recognised.

So the question is, does anyone have any details on the video format the K3 uses, or can point me at a video converter ( hopefully free) which will convert the movie clips into a .avi or .mpg file that I can use?

The K-3 saves its files in the widespread H.264 codec. If all else fails windows movie maker can certainly convert its files, but any other free converter should work as well.

Try 'Handbrake'. A popular and free transcoder.
