Lighting up the top LCD

Hi there,

I frequently use the top LCD to adjust settings, and I frequently shoot in the dark. Because of this, I configured the RAW button to light up the top LCD. On the K20D it used to be the EV button which lit up that screen. With the K-3 I believe there is no other option than using the RAW button as I did, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

If you use the status screen, turning that on should also illuminate the top LCD.

And I could swear I remember that the DOF preview button does the same, but perhaps I'm getting my camera systems mixed up.

I'm sure that on the K7 and K5 models there's a custom setting to switch off the LCD, otherwise its default action is to illuminate whenever the status screen does (as Adam suggests). The only time I see mine come on is if I flick into green mode briefly, as the custom setting is overridden in green mode.

If you revert this setting, it will light up with half press of shutter button.
By revert I mean set the RAW button to do something else.

That's got to be extremely annoying to have it light up all the time! Plus it will drain the battery, won'T it? And When I turn the light on, I usually want to adjust something.

I never noticed it, but that would be nice. Basically pressing the INFO button?

I'd love that, I never use the DOF button anyway. More things to check tonight!

Half press...no not annoying at all. I have the rear status screen turned off so the only battery draw is dim back light for the top LCD.

Essentially, yes.

No! how much battery that dim light uses comparing to the LCD or shutter mechanism? I say none!
I think if there was a way to have both of them together would be better. but even now I find it practical enough. you can choose which one you prefer.
However I remember seeing a way to set the duration of light to be on, somewhere which I didn't find in yesterday's hunt in menus.

I think the duration of the light is tied to the metering, no? So I think 3, 10, or 30 seconds. I could be completely wrong though...
