Steve
Cool, I have thousands of them between mine and my Dads old ones (going back to the 50's). They are a great legacy. I hope to get through digitizing them
some time.

I'll send you a PM for that RAW link, thanks. I am away from my desktop with darktable installed till next week, but I'll try it out then.

John.

Ok...I reneged on the offer of the RAW, but I did revisit the original PEF and gave it a fresh try using LR 5.6 and the 2012 process rather than the 2003 process used before. Here is the side-by-side comparison (screen capture) with the in-camera JPEG on the left:

I think I was able to do a much better job with the current version of ACR, though the in-camera still did better with the low values.

The history steps to produce the image on the right:

And, for those who are interested, the EXIF from the in-camera JPEG:

Sorry I missed your question earlier. It was developed in-camera from the PEF.

Astonishing how much the Kodachrome and the JPG look more similar than the RAW file from LR.
Yes, it is. The original slide strongly resembles the in-camera development (bright setting), though the scan did not. It took a lot of effort in PP to massage the scan to a presentable state. Though to be fair, the process was much less involved than it would have been making a wet print from the slide or an interneg.

me too; was looking for RAW development in LR that can provide decent default JPEG but never find it. I use Silkypix (paid version) now and like it much better and easier than LR.
