Impact of Pentax K-1 release on Pentax K-3 price

Can I safely assume that the price of the K-3 will significantly fall once the K-1 is released or are they really different markets?

The K-3 is already a steal at $650 at B&H but a further price drop never hurt anyone.

They're different markets, so I doubt the K-3's price will be affected.

I suspect this is probably as cheap as the technology can reasonably be sold for, but I would have no problem with being proved wrong.

I think the impact will be negligible, though the price of the K-3 may still fall a little bit more (though not much, since it's already quite cheap/competitively priced) until a new APS-C model is launched.

I would think on here it might make second hand one's fall off some more because of people that currently use a k-3 till FF comes out might want to liquidate to help fund the FF. Plus the characteristics of shooting FF vs APS-C is different I wouldn't think FF users would keep the K-3 as a back up. IMO

My thinking exactly! Of course, we're both from Baltimore so it stands to reason.

There might be some impact on used prices but I doubt there will be any on new. Different markets. Now if they bring out a new aps-c camera that might impact k-3 pricing.

It is going to be at least a year from now before a new cropped frame Pentax SLR is released. K3 II came out this year. Prices for the K3 should stick at about 650 USD as it is being passed out in some stores.

The price of K-3 will keep going down until all units are sold.

Hi All,
First post and this topic is exactly why I signed up. Don't flame me too hard, but I never knew about Pentaxes (and you Pentaxians ... geesh Pentax cameras were what my high school used for the camera club back in the days of 35mm) and weather proofing and how they are an amazing value, etc. until about two weeks ago. Chalk it up to Canikon brainwashing over the years. Actually I was, repeat was, in the market for a Panasonic FZ1000, until I discovered Pentax and the K-3. So I'm trying to get the best deal on the K-3 kit with the 18-135. There are a lot of bargains to be found, here in Canada, on Pentax cameras etc., but not much that I can see on the K-3 kit. It's standing strong at about CDN$1150. I thought that Pentax might give dealers more incentives to clear out the K-3 with the introduction of the K-1, but reading this thread, it looks like corporate Pentax might not feel the need for such incentives for remaining K-3 stock.
What are your views on this?
Take care,
Newfie

The K-3 is really in a different price channel from the FF (we think K-1). They ought not to be competitors, but Adam (the site owner) seems fairly surprised there aren't deals on bodies given what Pentax has offered recently on lenses.

K-3 stocks will price to clear shortly prior to the introduction of it's replacement, which could be late summer if past product cycles are a guide.

hey Newf

How about one of these?
Pentax K 50 Digital SLR Camera White Body Kit with Da 18 135mm WR Lens 027075233898 | eBay

In Canadian dollars that's roughly $750 with the 18-135.

If you have $1000, that leaves you room for one of these.

K-3 is aps-c k-1 is FF so not really any connection pricewise. Once the k-1 is actually released you might see some deals on used k-3s. But i doubt there will be any impact on new prices. If a replacement for the k'3 is released you might then see some clearance on the k-3. That is not likely before fall.
And honestly the k-3 is a great deal at current prices anyway.

Yo Norm!
How ya doing?
I was ready to pull the trigger on a used K-50 but did a bit of research and for my needs, or wants ;-) I want the K-3 with the 18-135 as an all-round camera (sort of what I wanted in the FZ1000) but with superior build quality and everything except the zoom. But now that I know I can pick up older prime lenses, etc. the K-3 looks to be a fun camera to experiment with too. You know, sort of like buying a Vivitar Series 1 Zoom lens from Abe's of Main back in the 1980's. The K-50 with the 18-135 can be had for about CDN$720 brand new. That lens keeps me coming back to the K-50, but I want to hold out for the K-3.
Thanks for your suggestions and take care,
Newifie

Thanks Monochrome,
I won't wait that long, so I might be in the Pentax family earlier than that!
