If you want my permission, you don't need it. The thought, if not the exact wording is not my invention, although I cannot recall when/where I first heard it, certainly many years back. I think the original was more along the lines of: "What if I wake up and find I've died in the night? That would spoil my entire day."

I suspect that majority that expects to keep both cameras to "complement each other" will end up using K1 more and eventually sell K3/5 in a few months anyway. Unless they find that K-1 is an overkill for them, and sell it instead.

The K-1 will not replace my K-3 and 6x7, it will be a complement. The 16-50 f/2.8 will probably be sold.

No way I get rid of my K-3! I might sell my K-5 or circulate that to my wife and sell her K-7.
Or keep K-5 for video with Tamron (manual focus) 28-105...

Heck, I just ordered a K-3 II even after the K-1 announcement. IMHO it is by far the best spec'ed camera for the money currently on the market. With the price drops of the DA Limited lenses I have been able to pick up a killer system for under $3000.00.
Now that the K-1 has been released I may think about one in a year or so. Will have to see how many gigs I get this year.

No, I'll keep the K-3 and K-01. And film cameras.

The K10D is pretty much a paperweight now since I lost the charger.

I'm not - but that doesn't mean I'm not eager to buy K-1.

My plan de jour is to find a 2nd copy of the 18-55 Kit lens and give each of my kids a K-7 and K-5 (flip of the coin which gets which)

Plans de jour do not last very long though...

The 'system' is never complete. I will part with my beloved K3 once they put a FF sensor in a K3 or smaller, lighter body. Until then no.

With crop function engaged, the K1 will record 15mp using, for example, the 16~85 or 8mm Bower. The K3 will record 24mp with these. For wildlife, cropping off about 1/2 of the frame to enlarge a bird using the 150~450 it would be 15mp, but 24mp for framing the same bird the same way photographed at the same subject to camera distance with the K3. So why would I bother with the K1? Well, there's the 200 SMCA ED macro, moved just a bit closer, and I can use the tilt screen to get lower doing macro shots (after dual hip replacements, getting down is difficult, getting up may soon require a 911 call). There are other FF lenses in my collection that I expect to perform better on a K1. And there there will be, I suspect, a significant improvement in low-light, high ISO IQ with the K1 (=substantial noise reduction at the least). I do a lot of hand-held interiors when traveling (museums, cathedrals, historic or extravagant homes, etc.), for these I expect the K1 will provide better image quality at higher ISO than the K3. And besides, I like the K3 but I need some rationale to buy a K1. Hopeless photo gearhead since the 1950's, but unapologetic. Why reform at my age now that I can pretty much afford what I want? Why wait when I may wake up tomorrow and discover I died in my sleep?

PS: CARPE K1
That last sentence was a killer. Very funny. Reminds me of a documentary I saw on the TLC. They were interviewing this individual who was in the Mafia in Brooklyn, N.Y. They asked him what it was about being in the Mafia that he had reservations about. He actually said this: Well, you may get a phone call at three in the morning telling you that you have to be in this meeting right away. Then he added: You never know, you walk into the meeting alive, and could be, you walk out dead. Apparently he is the type who is very self conscious about his age. He mentioned that every morning he read the obituaries and was astounded to discover how many young people died. Now this is the truth: He said, you never know, one day I will be reading the obituaries, and see my own name in there. Obviously, another intellect. I have say that yours is the best by far.

Thanks for the laugh. Tony
