When/what k3ll replacement ?

Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere, but noise about the k-1 has drowned out much other thoughts.

Anyway, when might the k-3ll be upgraded and how ? I'm assuming it will and it might pick up some k-1 AF improvements.

Personally, I don't want Ricoh to try and go beyond 24mp, improvements in DR and noise would be nice, but I'm not too bothered in the range I use my k-3. Video is not of interest.

The reason why I'm asking for thoughts is eventually I'll need to replace my k-3 and if the replacement is going for video and extra snappy AF, then maybe I should be keeping an eye out for
bargain k-3/k-3ll for peace of mind.

Thoughts anyone ?

- Yes

When?

- Most likely in 2017 (This might change. Depends on K-1 sales).

How?

- Different options are looked at, but most likely not so different from K-3II (better sensor, AF etc)

We haven't discussed K-3II replacement directly, just talking briefly on most likely scenarios after what Ricoh them self are saying. Will share more specific IF and WHEN I can do so..

Hopefully some sort of articulating screen, that would be nice, although perhaps hard to fit on to the small K-3 body that is already crowded with controls.

For now on, i think there is nothing really revolutionary coming, only incremental update.

I mean:
- the body is pretty much very good.
- The AF module seem improve a bit each time (faster now, however)
- the sensor is already pretty good, a bit better high iso maybe ?
- the metering is improve often those times.

I'm more interested to know what they're going to call it, now that they've gone right to the bottom of the number sequence. K3-III sounds a bit trite. Perhaps they will start another development line with ascending numbers, as they did with the KS- series.

My hypothesis is that they will go with a consumer-level APS-C line evolving from the KS series with onboard flash, a prosumer/professional APS-C line without it (with incremental evolution out of the K3), and whatever direction the K-1 evolution takes.

If history is any indication, it would come out late this year but with the K-1 introduced, that probably throws a wrench into it. I would probably be a buyer if it has a tilt screen, focus points occupying a larger area, and the more advanced pixel shift feature. Oh, and if the new wide zoom on the roadmap gets released and is great, then that would be doubly awesome.

I'd like to see a KS2 'pro' (K4?) - Basically a KS2 with the same features plus 14 bit raw, magnesium body, grip option, more focus points and a tweaked 20ish MP sensor with higher DR. I can live without pixel shift, top screen and dual card slots.

It wouldn't be a K3 replacement, but feel it would be a nice upgrade to the original KS2.

Pentax also likes the announcements on May-June.
