Metz 58 AF2 high speed flash with K-3 how in the world do you do it?

I picked up a Metz 25 AF2 so I could go over 1/160 flash speed of my Yongnuos but I can't figure out how to make it work. Yes I tried the book on both the K-3 and the metz and I can get the flash to fire at 1/500 but it doesn't sync and I'm lost. Can someone help me get this thing going?

Is the Metz P-TTL capable? Does it have HSS mode?

You need to update the firmware!

I had the same problem when I first bought my 50 AF-1 on eBay. I thought it was broken or incompatible, or that HSS was so weak that it wasn't really illuminating the image, but it turns out the firmware needed to be updated. I updated the firmware on the flash and then it worked fine. The original firmware was probably written before the K-3 came out.

You can download the firmware for your flash —here—. Just follow the instructions and you should have no problem. I think the hardest part was finding a USB cable with a mini connector on it!
I know it sounds weird, but when you install the firmware on the flash, the instructions said you need to have it plugged in to your computer, TURNED OFF, and WITHOUT ANY BATTERIES IN IT. It doesn't seem to make sense, but it works.

Heh... I love the honesty of your signature. Don't worry, between hanging around these here forums and shooting pictures for fun you'll catch on pretty quick. You've got some really good gear to work with!

Glad I could help.
I was really flummoxed when it happened to me, so I know how frustrated you must have been.

So let me ask you this. It looks like the only way to get high speed is in TTL mode and it won't let me manually control the power. I'm shooting usually around 320 shutter speed and most of the time 64 or 128 power would be plenty but it usually gives me way more than that. Is there a way to dial it back in TTL HSS?

Yes, using flash exposure compensation. Either on the flash itself or in the flash settings menu.
