Originally posted by panonski I can't complain about my Pentax K3 picture quality, but firmware is still on 1,21 ( correct me if I'm wrong ) and I can't see any will from Pentax ( or Ricoh ) to add some extra cookies inside.
I would suggest that one of the fundamental differences between Ricoh and Olympus business models is that functional/feature changes are only rarely added as a firmware update with Pentax/Ricoh product. There are obvious reasons for doing so, the most compelling being consistent customer support and stability of deployed units.
That aside, the policy is unlikely to change. The implication is that what you buy is what you get. Given that Pentax-brand products are typically feature-rich at their price point, that is not a bad thing. To be perfectly honest, my opinion is that a continuous roll-out of features in the form of firmware updates is a strong indicator that release of immature product is the rule for the brand. (You get less for your money initially and only get full value as the product approaches EOL.)
If a monthly gift of new features, whether useful or not, is a strong requirement in your choice of brands, I would suggest a return to Olympus or Panasonic or one of the other makers that promote that notion of "
value".
