I realize this thread is a few months old, but I just discovered that my K-3 will not power on. I thought it might be the battery (Pentax) I was using, because neither my K-1 nor my K-01 would power on. I ordered a Wasabi battery and my K-01 will power on with it, but not my K-3. Ugh!

even though this was a problem with the early K 3 II, you could try to call

". . . If your camera is one of those few which is affected by this issue and you're in the US market, you should call the Ricoh Imaging USA customer service department at 1-800-234-0276 to arrange for your camera to be serviced. If you're outside of the United States, we would recommend contacting your local Ricoh Imaging office or authorized Ricoh dealer for advice as to how to proceed. "

That advice is for an early K-3ii that won't turn off, not for a K-3 that won't turn on.

Not turning on and not turning off are two very different problems.

Yet, you said: ". . . The problem being: " ...certain K-3 II bodies can fail to turn off even after the Power switch is moved to the Off position, if the camera is left without a charged battery installed for an extended period of days or weeks."

I said "you [ the o p ] could try to call "

yes it wasn't the same problem

I said that

" even though this was a problem with the early K 3 II, you could try to call "

what you highlight was part of a quote I cited

I have a K-3 as well and mine won't power up either. I even bought a new battery and it still won't power up.

I'm sorry to hear that This is neither normal - nor commonly-experienced - with the K-3. It has generally proven to be an extremely reliable model.

If it's not working with two different, fully-charged batteries, it's probably faulty and you would need to have it inspected by your local service facility...

Out of warranty camera fixed successfully fixed by authorized service. I don't see what this has to do with Ricoh/Pentax. FWIW, I have a friend whose Canon 7D shutter failed 4 times in 18 months. My friend had to pay for 3 of the four repairs.

Also, it would be good to note that there has been no plague of K-3 cameras simply dying. If there were, the number of reported cases would number in the hundreds.

Steve
well mine died as well

We all need to be careful what general conclusions we draw from reading forum postings. Reports of failure are not a statistically significant sample and rarely give enough information to form a reliable judgement. Some K-3 units had problems early on with shutters. A very few early K-3iis suffered from a lock up problem. In both cases Pentax had a fix. I owned both cameras (2 k-3iis) and never had an issue. You are correct that all cameras can develop issues (that is why there are warranties) but the K-3 series was probably no worse than any others. The K-1 has been very stable but some owners have had issues which, again, is completely normal. Please do not spread ideas that a particular brand or model is subject to failure if there is not solid statistical evidence of a wide spread problem which has not been addressed.
Well, Im reading this forum and the same exact thing happened to my K-3. Coincidence ?? I think Not !!!
