Firmware

There is an updated firmware for my K3, I already have the firmware update for the 1.4 DA TC. I have read somewhere the newest update to fix battery grip battery info more accurate & also some AF issues ads or worsens AF. I am trying to get a better idea by asking if you have installed the latest K3 firmware has it helped or hindered your camera's AF ? Appreciate all feedback

I haven't noticed any obvious changes to AF performance (good or bad), nor indeed any other aspects. I certainly haven't noticed any adverse effects.

That is pretty much what I hope to hear from everyone. Thanks for your input. I read from someone here on PF that it made his AF much worse , I doubt that to be but just wanted to throw it out there.

The last firmware update I found is dated 2015. I may be missing something. I think it is v1.21 and was released on May 28, 2015. Are you sure you are looking at the firmware for the K-3? If that one is indeed the one you are looking at I have had no problems since installing it.

This is why I asked - thank you for asking what I was thinking. Not very new firmware - seems stable and safe.

I am running version 1.11 on my K3. I think v1.21 is the latest update so I am wondering should I update or not update ? I'm thinking yes but I'm pretty happy with the camera right now as it is. Welcome any input. Sorry I was nor more specific UncleVanya.

No worries. Ironically I TOO am running that version and recently realized it was a year since the 1.21 version came out and it was time to stop being nervous. The 1.20 fiasco put me off updating for a while. I will be applying 1.21 soon. I had a minor lockup or two during a recent shoot - both fixed by simply powering off and on - but I feel like I should apply the latest to see if that resolves the problem. Of course since I can't recreate the problem I'm hard pressed to define success!

I truly appreciate the input and think I will go ahead with v1.21 as really I have not heard any grumbling from the forum . I also was a little nervous. I don't have many clicks on the K3 and it has been flawless....... I have my K5IIs completely updated also my K5's. A few times I have had to pull the battery out of my K5's but it has only happened 3 times over as many years (lock up). I have been very happy with all my gear for years.

Strange to see that no-one in this thread has linked to the firmware (and other Pentax/Ricoh camera software) downloads page at the main Pentax HQ web site:

Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING

and the K-3 firmware downloads page:

I had been putting it off. But I did it today. No problems.
I must admit though that my heart is in my mouth every time I do an upgrade until I see that word "COMPLETED".

I can't afford to turn either of my cameras into a brick/expensive paperweight.
