oh god was going k3ii route but k70 appeals

Further to my previous thread regards upgrading my venerable k10d, to either a K3 k3ii or K1. The K1 is out on cost grounds, I only have two lenses that would be FF the others are designed for APC sensors I was seriously tempted by the K3ii, but now having seen the specs for the K70, what would still persuade me to buy the K3ii

I was gonna make a thread about how k70 gonna kill the K3's. but then I checked out the specs.
K3's still gonna some specs above k70. like focus points 27 vs 11. bigger LCD 3.2 vs 3
and the battery grip, if you wanna look "pro"
k70 seems like a great choice, but in the $700 area, I would go for the K3ii.
now you can find like new K3 for less then $600
if you want some video specs then go for the K70.

Well, I like having the built in GPS in the K-3ii.
I get better performance from the D-Li190 in my K-3ii than I do from the D-Li109 in my K-30.
You have the option of a battery grip with the K-3ii.
I can't find information to confirm what the K-70's body is constructed from, so assume it is polycarbonate as opposed the magnesium alloy body of the K-3ii.
Ergonomics: got to try it to see if you like it, but I prefer the handling of the K-3/K-3ii over the K-30.

I am sure there are other points that others will mention. It's up to you to balance these against the new feature set on the K-70. Good luck!

If you need a flash go with the k-70 otherwise the k3ii is still the better camera

Yeah, having gone K-50 to K-3II I was interested in the K-70 and what it would bring.

But I have to say I'm hooked on the GPS. It's a great implementation, and I love Astrotracer. I also wonder if the K-70 has as good sensor cleaning, testing as the 3II. I've come to like that as well. OTOH, wifi and a tilt screen would be nice. But I think Flucards have been discontinued so you might find one cheap, and in some ways it's better than the wifi in-camera.

K-3II is the more advanced in performance, build, and features.

Both of these are very much a matter of taste.
For me, the flippy screen is more a liability than a benefit.
As to wifi tethering, what I have seen so far is rather laggy and buggy.

So, again, you gotta figure out what's important to you.

Depends on what is more important:

Built-in GPS vs Flash
Battery Grip vs none
fixed LCD vs flippy LCD

The K3ii will have more features like EV bar manual metering with non-KA+ MF lenses, more image settings and processing etc. Some of the flagship features on the K10D will not be there on the K-70. If you use them you may miss them.

K-3II wins hands-down for specs, performance and maturity. K-70 is an unproven mid-level "also ran" to buy time for those of us who await a new APS-C flagship (which is currently the K-3II).

If you want a camera that will last as long as the K10D did for you, go for the K-3/K-3 II/K-1 over the K-70. While the latter is the latest model, it is a consumer body and as such lacks the build quality and shutter durability of the flagship series.

I guess it boils down to the features you need and how long you plan to use the camera prior to upgrading. See also this thread:

If you can, try using both cameras in a store. Specs aside, which matter differently depending on your use (but seem quite close), the k3ii feels so much more solid than other plastic bodies such as the ks2. Or many other products in general...

For me, the quieter shutter on the flagship series is a major plus. Not much information yet on this aspect of the K-70 but I imagine it will be comparable to the K-50 or K-S2.
