I do not use an L-bracket, however.
I still have one. It was on my K10D most of the time, along with my regular strap. Since going to my K-3, I have moved on to just an Optech which is easy to substitute a wrist strap for their longer strap.
You're 100% correct about the lack of instructions. I couldn't believe it when I opened the box, especially since it is not very intuitive. I finally found enough pictures on the web to get it done. Did I do it correctly??? Who knows, but it never came off unless I took it off. It was also not very good with the battery grip. It limited the ability to switch hand position to the grip for portrait photos. On the other hand, the hand grip/strap accessory for my PZ-1p was a model of good design and ergonomics.
