K3 cmaera not recognized by windows 10

I connected my k3 by usb cord to transfer image files to my computer but windows gives an error message that the usb device is not recognized.
My card reader stopped working so I tied this out.
My usb ports work on other devices.
Any suggestions on why the direct camera connection does not work and how to fix.?

Did you turn on the camera? Otherwise the PC does not recognise that there is a device connected to the USB port.

Yes. Camera indicates so. Computer makes the sound it has when a usb is connected then the error message pops up.

If the usb port works correctly with other devices, then there must be some problems with your sd-card. Change the card or (if it is possible) check the card for errors.

It is one of the many Windows 10 bugs. Make sure that all of your Windows 10 updates have run. From my notes from last year an update fixed the problem. Then you are going to have to muck around in the settings. I suggest that you also do a search on the Microsoft support forums.

Does your computer hardware support USB 3?

I plugged the camera USB cord into the k 3 camera and a USB 3 port on my computer. Got the error described above.

I took the camera card to another computer and transferred the files from that card to a USB thumb drive. I took that USB drive and plugged it into the same USB port that did not recognize the K3 hook up and transferred the files onto my computer.

There are setting in the camera setup that change how USB connects. Try changing those in the K-3.

Or try a different cable. Seems a high percentage of USB connection problems are cable related.

I have the k-3 and running windows 10, I plug it in via USB 3.0 and also USB 2.0 port on my computer... the cards (2 or them) are recognised on either ports with no problems. I would try a different cable as Not-a-number suggested. Or perhaps, in the worse case, the USB port on your k-3 is busted (hope it is still under warranty?).

Thanks to ALL. Just wanted to see if it may have been a Windows 10 problem. Appears to be cord or camera port connection problem.

I have not had this problem but have in the past had issues with a USB input not being properly recognized. Then, turning the computer off and then back on, things work. Also, as others have suggested, make sure everything is up to date. Both Windows and Pentax. Also, if you have more than one port, try switching ports.

from what I hear there are many problems with windows 10, my windows partition is still 7, no way I'm going 10, I have it on a test box but rarely experiment with it. Good luck on your quest.

Windows 10 won't recognize my printer (USB 2); seems Microsoft still has bugs to fix.

it might be a case of updating Dot.Net Framework and downloading and installing updated printer drivers.
