pentax K3 firmware 1.30

Installed pentax firmware version 1.30 released November 23, 2016. Sigma 150-500mm lense will not autofocus on my pentax k3. Do not know if the lens is damaged or if new firmware is not allowing lens to autofocus. May have to invest new pentax lens 150-450mm cost over $2000 in the United States. Has any one else experienced similar problem.

Hi raslane. I have updated the firmware on my K-3 also, but my Sigma 150-500 is not affected and functions normally. Others here may have some ideas as to what you can try. Good luck.

I too have had a problem with this lens. Not sure if it happened with a firmware upgrade or not but I suspect it just 'happened'.

I don't have any Sigma lenses but from my understanding from other posts on the Forum is that Sigma lenses will often require a firmware update after updating the camera's firmware. That's why Sigma has the docking station to facilitate firmware updates.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

Did your Sigma work properly on your K-3 before doing the 1.30 firmware upgrade on the camera? As a legacy lens, a reflash using the Sigma dock is not possible, though a similar upgrade may be available from Sigma as a service remedy.

Hi Not a Number. Unfortunately the Sigma dock is for " A(rt), S(port) and C(ontemperary) " lenses only. The 50-500, 150-500,etc are not covered by the dock as they are too old and don't contain the necessary internal electronics.

Little off topic, but mY sigma lens are not covered in "Lens correction" menu. I have 17-70 2.8-4.5, and 17-50 2.4...

It's a shame really.

It might be the Sigma lenses, and not Ricoh/Pentax. The Sigma lenses might not have all the internal contacts that the Pentax lenses have.

Why help your competitors?

You may say that Sigma and Tamron are co-habitants of an ecosystem for the buyer.

But another way of saying that, is they are rivals.

yeah, but this is obviously less better for us consumers

Why in hell should someone from serious company think by that ? It's not very wise thinking to make consumers of your techniq inferior .. In any way .

Sigma is very strong in producing good glasses, and Pentax is rely on that, and of course Tamron and others manufacturers which deliver lens with Pentax mount, and spread the offer and usability of our Pentax Cameras.

So,

I really don't think this is the case here, maybe is just Pentax lazyness, or perhaps, as the coleague uphere said before, Sigma don't have proper hardwer

Consumers and vendors ultimately have different objectives, Panonski, you know this!

Do you think if you put a Sigma lens on a Canon it will get corrections?
