That is correct, but I just tested this on my wife's K-3 and it does
not work. As far as I can tell our cameras are set up identically. But it works with the K-3ii and K-1 but not the K-3 and earlier.
So I will guess that one of the changes made at the release of the K-3ii was to change this behavior. People have been requesting it since the k-x was new so I'm surprised Ricoh would make the change and no one noticed. Unless it was a recent firmware change.

K-3, K-3ii and K-1 have only AF and MF on the lever and then an AF Mode button above the lever that lets you select AF.S, AF.C and AF.A using the front wheel.
